From jockstraps to the jockey
Ever wonder where the humble brief cut came from? Or why is it some companies call them a jockey? Turns out they were invented after the jockstrap, and termed a 'jockey' as they supposedly gave the same support as a jockstrap. They were first sold in the US in 1935. Interestingly, the concept was said to have come from an image seen on a postcard of a man wearing a form fitting short bathing pant. Around 30,000 pairs were sold in the first season.
